Just, One More Independence Day?
Since independence, so many independence days have come and gone, but when we compare, this independence day with the previous years, can we proudly say that our country has prospered than the previous year’s independence day, our citizens have become, better in the social responsibilities, our politicians have become more concerned about the progress of the people and the nation. As long as we have the attitude, of August 15th, as one more holiday in the list of holidays, or as other festive seasons one more reason for business men to offer discounts and to increase the sales, one really wonders, as to where, as a nation, we are heading to.
We don’t just become a great nation, when yearly once, on the Independence Day we remember, the freedom fighters, gandhian principles, watch flag hoisting on television, or participate in flag hoisting as a formality at our offices or work places, and claim ourselves to be great nation lovers. A country becomes great, when its people become great, when they practice fundamental duties, before asking for fundamental rights. When we start assessing, each and every one of us, let it be politicians, businessman, working people, players and athletes, each and every one of us, as to what we have contributed to the betterment of the society or our nation.
When we play a better role as a citizen and as a person we have a right to question the system, for its corrupt practices, when we stop bribing officials, to do their duties, when we follow traffic rules, not for the fear of officials or fine, but for our own safety, we become better as citizens, when we pay taxes, and contribute towards the growth of the nation, we become better citizens, when each and every one of us starts thinking of himself or herself as a person responsible for the growth of the nation and has an important role to play in the nations progress, the people will prosper, town will prosper, region will prosper, states will prosper and ultimately nation will prosper.
Then that day, when we have performed our duties as a true citizen of the country, we can claim ourselves to be nation lovers, and have a true reason to celebrate our independence day in a real sense.
