Reasons behind loss of interest in studies

The main reason, as to, why students are losing interest in studies is that, education is thrust upon them as some sort of burden, which they have to bear by compulsion, there is lot of pressure on the students from the college, and parents, as each and every parent wants to see their child as a ranker or as a topper, and corporate colleges are literally squeezing life out of students.

Education is no more a self development tool, and a means to acquire worldly knowledge, it has become mere means of earning salary, and to keep oneself ahead in the bread winning race. Lecturers and professors are concerned with completing syllabus and parents are concerned with ranks and grades, but no one is really bothered as to what the student is gaining.

Students are expected just to mug up the syllabus and literally vomit it in the exams, nothing else, there is no scope for them to contemplate on the ideas, understand the real concept behind the subject, they are not given the freedom even to express in their own words what they have understood, blind mugging and unquestioning attitude, towards the subject has really made education a sort of burden.

Students are not encouraged to question the ideas in the subject, and are not given a chance to express their point of view and have a better understanding of the subject. Mere blind following of the syllabus and schedule is what is expected out of them. Education is not made interesting, where in students like spending time on educating themselves voluntarily. Right from the sibling going to L. K. G to college going student, everyone has a tight schedule laid out, no one is given a chance or time to think of anything else except studies, this way student’s brain gets exhausted and they feel terrible pressure. No, wonder many number of students are committing suicide, unable to cope up with the pressure, and the competition.

They should be given time for recreation or to pursue their interests or hobbies along with studies, only then they will be able to do better in studies, and would be able to perform better. Students should be treated and seen as human beings, not as a sort of robots, who are merely command following machines, with no brains of their own, just take input and give output. When the concept behind education changes and the system changes from business driven attitude towards value driven, we will have better education system, where students love education instead of fearing it.
