Disciplining Kids
Perhaps this is the toughest job of parenting. Disciplining kids is a tough task, because, they will not be in an age, where in you can make them sit, talk to them, and make them understand.
Nor, can you punish them, and correct their behavior, because of their tender mind and body. We often associate the word discipline, with punishment, or control, but the real meaning of discipline is, to impart knowledge and skill.
Discipline should help the child, to cope up with the real world, in an effective way. It should help him build confidence and should make him, competent.
Effective and positive discipline, is guiding, and teaching children, not to just force them, to obey us. Parents should correct any misbehavior, but in a way that it has a positive effect, on the child.
Even though, you correct them and discipline them, kids should always have confidence that you are there to love them, and take care of them.
This is the kind of confidence, you need to install in kids. Trust between the parents, and the child, should always be maintained, and it should keep increasing along with time.
The ultimate goal of all the activities, relating to discipline, should be to teach the kid acceptable and appropriate behavior.
As a disciplined kid, he should be able to postpone pleasures; he should be considerate towards the need of the others, should be tolerant, assertive and should be able to tolerate discomfort or should be able to take pains if time demands.
These are the qualities that we need to develop, in a kid, as he develops, both physically and mentally. The base of all the discipline should be the kid’s respect towards parental authority.
We should make the kid, understand that, whatever the parents does, is for the good of the child, and he should love, and respect parents.
If this feeling is there in the child, it is easy to discipline him, and show him the right path. Parents who use harsh disciplinary actions such as shouting, humiliation and verbal abuse, do not gain respect from the kid.
So, check out the real meaning of discipline, and then start disciplining.
